AFTER three straight days of less than 1,000 new cases, coronavirus infections in the country breached the 1,000 mark on Wednesday, December 30, 2020.

The Department of Health (DOH) reported 1,014 new infections on Wednesday, bringing the total to 472,532.

Of this number, 23,793 were active cases.

The cities and provinces with the highest number of cases on Wednesday were Quezon City (67), Benguet (57), Makati City (48) Bulacan (44) and Laguna (40).

There were 68 additional mortalities, raising the death toll from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) to 9,230. The case fatality rate went up to 1.95 percent.

The number of recoveries also increased to 439,509, including 518 on Wednesday. (HDT / SunStar Philippines)
