Virus cases plateau at less than 2,000 a day

THE Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday, November 28, 2020, reported less than 2,000 coronavirus cases a day for the 19th consecutive day.

The 1,893 new cases confirmed on Saturday were, however, higher by 16 percent than the 1,631 recorded on Friday as the number of tests also increased.

As of 4 p.m. Saturday, the DOH recorded a total of 427,797 coronavirus infections in the country, of which 31,402 were active cases.

The DOH also said there were an additional 79 mortalities, raising the death toll from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) to 8,333. The case fatality rate increased to 1.95 percent.

There were 474 new recoveries, bringing the total to 388,062.

Davao City again topped the list of new infections with 200, followed by Negros Occidental with 123, Samar with 84, Pampanga with 60 and Quezon City with 57.

The total tests conducted on November 27 reached 27,748, of which 1,553 or 5.6 percent yielded positive results. (Marites Villamor-Ilano / SunStar Philippines)
