Woman killed by 'accidental' gun fire in Tondo

Third Anne Peralta-Malonzo

A WOMAN was killed on Friday, August 3, after she was “accidentally” shot by a restaurant owner while trying to intervene in a traffic altercation.

In a report, the Manila Police District (MPD) said Arcell Mendoza, 22, a resident of Barangay 35 in Tondo, was declared dead on arrival at the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center.

Police said Mendoza was then on her way home along with her driver identified as Calvin Mesa when a motorcycle hit their vehicle, resulting in a heated argument between both drivers.

Richard Peralta, an owner of the restaurant near the area where the incident happened, went out and approached the two drivers and tried to intervene.

He brought with him his Glock 26 pistol, which accidentally went off while trying to get in between the two drivers.

The bullet pierced through Mendoza’s back, resulting in her death.

Peralta surrendered to the authorities and said what happened was an accident. (SunStar Philippines)
