MANILA -- Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said Wednesday that the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) repatriated some 23 Filipinos affected by the massive earthquake in Haiti.

He noted that the 23 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) arrived in the country over the weekend.

Ermita detailed that six of them arrived last January 29, five on January 30, and 12 were brought back last January 31.

Another 41 OFWs from the devastated Haiti will be sent home this coming weekend, the Palace official added.

Those who will arrive on Thursday at 5:50 a.m. will be escorted by Vice Consul Jason Anazarias of the Embassy of Havana onboard Philippine Airlines flight PR 103.

OFWs heading home on Friday meanwhile will be escorted by Ambassador Macarthur Corsino from Havana.

Representatives from DFA, Department of Labor and Employment, and Department of Social Welfare and Development will welcome the OFWs upon their arrival here, said Ermita.

He said these government agencies will find out what further assistance it could give to the families of the OFWs who lost their jobs due to the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that ravaged Haiti. (Jill Beltran/Sunnex)
