'Auring' maintains strength

TROPICAL depression Auring maintained its strength while traversing Mindanao or Bohol sea, the state weather bureau said on Sunday, January 8.

In its 11:00 p.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the tropical depression has maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 75 kph. The tropical depression is expected to move west northwest at seven kph.

Pagasa said at 10:00 p.m., the center of the tropical depression is at west southwest of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte.

Cuyo Island is still placed under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) Number 1.

Bohol, Siquijor, Negros Provinces, Southern Leyte, Cebu including Camotes Island, Guimaras, Iloilo and southern part of Antique, Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Norte including Siargao Island, Dinagat Province, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Oriental and Camiguin are also placed under TCWS Number 1.

Residents in the said areas are alerted to possible landslides and flashfloods.

Pagasa also advised fisherfolks and those with smaller seacrafts not to over the eastern seaboard of Visayas and of Mindanao. (Sunnex)
