MORE than a thousand vacationers are stranded in ports of Calapan, Mindoro Oriental, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Calapan official confirmed Monday.

PCG Calapan Commander, Lieutenant Senior Grade Algier Ricafrente estimated more than 1, 500 vacationers stuck in Calapan ports.

Ricafrente said shipping companies' incapability to accommodate all the passengers caused the delay.

Add to that the strict safety measures implemented by PCG, Ricafrente said.

"We are considering the limit of the number of passengers that the ships can accommodate," he said.

The PCG Calapan is also ensuring that all passengers will be included in the manifesto before going on board. The lashing of all cargos is its other concern.

PCG officials gave an ultimatum of three to four days until all stuck passengers will be able to go on board.

They also have urged the help of the local government of Oriental Mindoro, particularly in temporarily accommodating the stranded passengers.

The local government responded and allowed some of the passengers to stay in barangay halls for the meantime. (Sunnex)
