A THREE-YEAR-OLD child was killed, while another one was wounded, in an explosion in the town of Dimataling, Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported on Tuesday, October 3.

The Zamboanga del Sur police identified the fatality as John Javier Bonga, three. Wounded was Raymund Maghinay, also three years old.

Police Officer 1 Iresidel Osayan, the case investigator, said the children-victims were seen tinkering a metallic object as they played beneath the house of their auntie, Genalyn Vallecer, around 3:30 p.m., Monday, October 2, in the village of Poblacion, Dimataling.

At that time, Vallecer was making bamboo sticks about 10 meters away from her two nephews.

Osayan said Vallecer informed them that suddenly she heard a loud explosion killing instantly Bonga. Maghinay was rushed to the Margosatubig Regional Hospital.

He said it was further learned that the explosive device was found by the children near the house of Vallecer.

Osayan said the recovered pieces of deformed aluminum metallic sheet were submitted to the crime laboratory to determine the type of explosive that exploded. (SunStar Philippines)
