ONE died while two others were wounded in a shooting incident at the Matiao Public Market in Mati City Tuesday evening.

The victims were identified as Julius L. Mabini, 47, married, provincial officer of National Commission of Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), Bienvinedo Madanlo, and Sylvestrito Pausta.

Initial police investigation revealed that the victims were walking from the NCIP office to the public market when a gunman onboard a motorcycle shot them.

Madanlo succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds while the two other injured victims were rushed to Camilus Hospital. Mabini and Pausta's conditions were stable as of Wednesday afternoon.

Police Regional Office-Davao spokesperson Antonio Rivera said Wednesday that the Mati police have yet to submit a follow-up report on the identification and motives of the two suspects.

"After the report has been filed, we will reveal the details if the motive of the incident was connected to their work or if it's personal," said Rivera.

"Kadtong duha kabuok na buhi kay officers to sa NCIP pero kadtong isa dili pako sure kung officer pud to siya (Those two officers who survived the incident are officers of NCIP but I'm not sure if the one who died was also from the group)," Rivera added. (KRP)
