THE Ifugao provincial government has granted scholarships to 143 indigent students this school year.

Close to 300 students from the province’s 11 municipalities applied for the Tertiary Education Assistance Program (TEAP).

Each TEAP scholar will be entitled to P5,000 per semester and P1,500 for summer classes.

Provincial Administrator Evelyn Dunuan said the TEAP committee chose four grantees from each barangay.

Last school year there were 447 TEAP grantees, out of which 67 graduated and 111 were terminated due to failure to meet the standards of the program and drop-out cases.

The 175 barangays and 10 Special Economic Zone (SEZs) are entitled to one TEAP grantee every year.

An applicant must be a permanent resident of the province as certified by the barangay captain and graduated from a recognized Ifugao secondary school with a general average grade of at least 80 percent.

He must not be a recipient of any scholarship program and financial assistance from the provincial government, and the total gross annual family income must be less than P75,000. Marcelo B. Lihgawon
