1M jobs from IT-BPM industry eyed

THE Information Technology and Business Process Management (IT-BPM) is eyeing one million more jobs for Filipinos in the following six years, that is, if critical steps are made.

"The nice thing about this industry is that we don't worry about demand. We know that there is enough demand for everybody," said Rainerio Borja, president of Phil-Aus operations of Expert Global Solutions, in his talk at the Cebu Digital Transformation Summit Wednesday, June 1.

"A system of education and techvoc that is aligned and adaptive to changing business needs; a more aggressive Next Waves Cities development agenda to spur further country-wide growth; a competitive regulatory and incentive regime; a credible country brand marketing program" are among the steps that should be observed to reach that time span, said Borja.

For the last 15 years, the industry has generated about 1.3 million jobs for the Philippines and at least 300,000 are generated outside Metro Manila, he added. (Elizah Marie dela Rosa, CNU intern)
