2 missing as lightning hit fishing boat

TWO people were missing when a lightning hit a fishing boat off shore Zamboanga del Norte province, a police official said Thursday.

Superintendent Jose Bayani, Gucela, Zamboanga Peninsula Police Office (ZPPO) spokesman, said the incident took place around 5:45 a.m. Tuesday in the high seas of Manukan town, Zamboanga del Norte.

Gucela identified them as Jose Villegas and Kara Regencia, all crewmen of a fishing boat owned by Antonio Renalos, Sr. of Miputak village, Dipolog City.

Gucela said Renalos, his son, Antonio, together with Villegas and Regencia were aboard a boat and on fishing venture when lightning struck the fishing boat.

He said luckily father and son Renalos were unscathed while Villegas and Regencia were thrown overboard and were not seen since then.

He said the policemen of Manukan town conducted search and rescue operation but failed to locate the two fishing boat crewmen.(Bong Garcia)
