ONE died, while 16 others were injured when a multicab and a dump truck collided on a blind curve in Barangay Lutac, City of Naga, Cebu yesterday morning.

Carl Jose Canque was declared dead on arrival at the Minglanilla District Hospital for severe injuries.

Canque was with 13 other people, including 24-year-old driver Denmark Ebrado, who were onboard the multicab bound for Barangay Pardo, Cebu City from Asturias town.

The dump truck driven by Efren Secuya, on the other hand, was heading toward Toledo City from Lapu-Lapu City. Secuya, who was working for the Grow and Green Construction and Development Corp., was with three other companions.

PO3 Keith Nuñeza, City of Naga traffic investigator, said that Canque and his companions, who were mostly relatives, left Asturias after attending a wedding last Wednesday when upon passing Barangay Lutac, they encountered a blind curve.

Nuñeza said that the multicab reportedly encroached at the opposite lane just as it was making a turn toward the blind curve.

The multicab driver, however, failed to notice Secuya’s truck that resulted in the collision.

Except for Canque, all the 16 passengers including the multicab driver and the groom Godofredo Gimongala, were brought to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.

Secuya surrendered to the local police.
