MORE than 3,000 policemen will provide security during the conduct of the May 9 polls in Davao City.

Police Regional Office (PRO)-Davao Region spokesperson Chief Inspector Andrea dela Cerna said Thursday that the police have already mapped out plans to guarantee the safety of both voters and Commission on Elections (Comelec) personnel.

PRO-Davao acting officer-in-charge Manuel Gaerlan said that the police should also take care of their health to properly execute their duties.

"We cannot discount the fact that there are people out there who will sabotage our duties, thus, our primary responsibility should be our physical health so we could provide services to the people efficiently," he said.

The Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) would also help ensure the conduct of safe and secure elections.

In close coordination with the Comelec and in partnership with the police, Eastmincom will oversee Davao and Caraga regions, parts of Soccsksargen and Northern Mindano regions.

On several occasions, inter-agency meetings were conducted between the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Comelec to fine tune election security plans and preparations and create a peaceful environment that will allow the people to cast their votes safely.
