50 kilos of marijuana seized

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – Police apprehended an owner-type jeep with containing dried marijuana leaves weighing some 50 kilograms.

Combined elements of the San Gabriel Police Station, La Union Provincial Public Safety Company, Police Regional Office 1, and La Union Provincial anti-illegal drugs unit in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) intercepted the drugs.

The vehicle was stopped in a checkpoint in Sitio Kilat, Barangay Bumbuneg, San Gabriel town this province.

According to La Union Police Provincial Office (LUPPO) Deputy Provincial Director for Administration Manuel Apostol, the checkpoint operation was conducted after a tip-off from an informant.

Apprehended during the operations were the driver - Emiliano Cabading alias Ruben, 42 years old and four other occupants, namely; Ben Pacuyan, 58; Meling Puklis, 50; Roldan Puklis, 13; and Josepha Dayao, 42.

The marijuana leaves which were valued at about P1.25M, consisted of twenty-four bricks and found placed inside four plastic bags.

The arrested persons and confiscated items were brought to the San Gabriel Police Station for investigation and proper disposition.

As of this posting, the case, Apostol said, has been brought to the fiscals’ office in San Fernando City. (Miriam P. Aquino)
