THE police have arrested six people after they intercepted a fishing boat in an anti-illegal fishing operation off shore Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Wednesday.

Zamboanga Peninsula police information officer Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca said the arrest was made around 3 p.m. Tuesday in the waters of Margosatubig, Zamboanga Del Sur.

Arrested were Carlito Galorio, Fernando Rojas, Teodoro Galorio, Palang Corpin, Alvino Galorio, and Roland Consot, all residents of Igat Island, Margosatubig town, Huescan said.

The arrested persons were boarding F/B Dominic owned by Marcelino Cataga, also of Margosatubig town, Huesca added.

He said the policemen were on seaborne patrol when they spotted the fishing boat at the fish sanctuary of Margosatubig. The fishermen were caught using illegal fish net locally known as “hulbot-hulbot.”

He said Cataga has been slapped with penalty for the violation committed by his fishing boat crew.
