‘61 Bacolod barangays must clean canals’

Sunnexdesk

THE Bacolod City Government has urged its 61 barangay units to clean canals and sewers to prevent flooding in the city.

The City Council approved a resolution for barangays “to conduct cleanup and clearing operations of garbage and other obstacles in sewers and canals in preparation for the rainy season” to avoid floods.

Councilor Wilson Gamboa Jr., chairperson of the city Council Committee on Environment, said there is a need to clear the heavily silted waterways to lessen flooding in many low-lying areas in the city.

The cleanup will also help eliminate the breeding areas of insects, especially dengue-carrying mosquitoes, it added.
