7 University of Mindanao grads top teachers’ board exam

THE University of Mindanao not only got its third top 1 ranking in three years in the March 2017 Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) Secondary Level, it also has six more graduates in the top 10 in a first-ever feat for a Davao City school.

It is the university's third top 1 in the past three years. In the LET elementary school level, two graduates of Davao schools shared the top 7 place.

"We are very proud of the achievements of our College of Teaching Education during the past three years," UM President Guilllermo Torres Jr., said in a text message.

"We had produced three No. 1 and multiple topnotchers."

A total of 60 of 66 first-time takers passed for a university passing rate of 90.1 percent.

Marian Kaye Fortinez Gallego, a Bachelor in Secondary Education major in Mathematics, scored 92.80 percent to rank first among all secondary level test takers. Joining her in the top 10 are: Gerlie Tampos Albia of UM-Digos College who garnered 91.4 percent for the 5th place; Rosa Mae Asaytona Salazar and Chrestine Bariquit Torrejos from UM-Main with 91.2 percent to share 6th place; Leslae Kay Cataytay Mantilla with 91 percent for 7th place; Kristine Clarisse Cabante Planas with 90.6 percent for 8th place; and Mark John Tayong Pepito with 90.4 percent for ninth place.

The 8th place is shared with Clarrise Gillian Perocho Amora of the Holy Name University, formerly Divine Word University in Tagbilaran, and Mark King Cornel Jayson Ampis of the Philippine Dominican Center for Institutional Studies in Quezon City.

The 9th place is shared with Aaron Benedict Yu Chi and Debbie Marie Bautista Verzosa, both from Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City.

In the September 2015 Secondary Level LET, UM graduate Eula Mae Carlos Busbus garnered a rating of 90.2 percent to land in the Top 1, while Rowena Miano Hingpit garnered 90.6 percent in the March 2016 Elementary Level LET to be at Top 1.

UM will be holding convocation for the new topnotchers and passers, the schedule of which will still be announced. Gallego will get a P500,000 cash gift while the other topnotchers from UM will get P50,000 each.

"We thank the Lord for His blessings and the faculty for their commitment to excellence and to hard work of our students. We are extremely proud of them," Torres said.

In the elementary school level, Kathleen Crystyl Noquiao Longakit of Holy Cross Of Davao College and Jamaika Ann Sarigumba Serra of University of Southeastern Philippines-Davao City both scored 88 percent to share 7th place with Renelly Omamos Ortega of Mindanao State University-(Maigo Sat) and Princess Paras Pante of University of the Philippines-Diliman.

The rest of the secondary schools level topnotchers are:

Acejan Lascuna Jadie of De La Salle University-Dasmarinas who ranked No. 2 with 92.6 percent; Allan Geoffrey Gonzales Cruz of ADMU and Flabelle Bolivar Tan of the University of Nueva Caceres with 92.2 percent to share 3rd place; Nicko Layusa Tumala of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Valenzuela with 91.6 percent for 4th place; and the 10th place score of 90.2 percent shared by Melanie Locano Baniwas Saint Louis University, Mark RobelAtoc Enerio of Mindanao Sanitarium & Hospital College of Medical Arts Fndtn, Ronald Calbonero Gaballoof Cebu Normal University (Cebu State College), Steve Mathew Cabigunda Garcenila of Manila Central University- Caloocan City, Racquel Abretan Luban of Saint Louis University in Baguio, Marvin Anoya Quayzon of Leyte Normal University, and Jhon Edward Macasadia Valera of De La Salle University-Manila.

A total of 18,482 secondary teachers out of 72,584 (25.46 percent) passed for a 25.46 percent overall passing rate for Secondary level of March 2017 LET, 8.32 percent lower than the September 2016, which had a 33.78 percent overall passing rate, the Professional Regulations Commission said.

The rest of the elementary schools level topnotchers are:

5. Mark Joseph Macanim Timple Western Mindanao State University-Pagadian City 88.60;

6. Joy Marie Dinglasa Blasco Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute Of Technology 88.40 and Ma Lea Reinyle SeñoLumitao University Of The Philippines-Diliman 88.40;

8. Christine Rose Calais Calisin University of the Philippines- Diliman and Benneth Emmanuelle Labide Ulibarri University of the Philippines- Diliman 87.80;

9. Samantha Martinez Abelinde University of the Philippines-Diliman and Joanna Marie Sabado Tabiliran Xavier University 87.60, and;

10. Erin HyjaBanayat Fabrigas Saint Louis University - 87.40.

A total of 5,600 elementary teachers out of 53,915 examinees (10.39 percent) passed the most-numbered PRC-administered licensure exams held on March 26, 2017. The elementary passing rate is 19.79 percent lower than the September 2016, which had a 30.18 percent overall passing rate.
