Abalos, Acuna take Chairman's Cup top plums

RICHIE Abalos and Eric Acuna fired the day's best scores to rule the recently 10th Camp John Hay Chairman's Cup at the Camp John Hay Golf Club in Baguio last weekend.

Abalos shot 33 points to bag the overall championship crown, while Acuna captured the low gross plum with 40 points.

Abalos, a 10 handicapper, had a net 23-point output under the Stableford scoring system to clinch the top honors in the two-day event which drew a field of 200-plus participants.

Acuna, with a 19 handicap, took the low gross crown with his 40-point performance in the tournament held in honor of CJH chairman Robert John Sobrepena and sponsored by Wilson Sports, Golforce, Incorporated, Warbird Securities and Investigation Agency, Gatorade, Daniel Motors Inc., Asia Pacific Golf Corp., and Poblador Bautista and Reyes Law Offices.

Mars Acuna, a six-handicapper, came away with 42 points to cop the Class A crown with Kim Hwa Rang and Monet Garcia finishing second and third, respectively, with identical 39 points.

Korean Jong Won Park and Florentino David failed to defend their overall championship and low gross titles of the tournament which also featured club members and club guests fighting for top honors in various divisions.

Brackets in the one day golfing spectacle were Class A (handicaps 0-9), Class B (10-15), Class C (16-19), Class D (20-above), the ladies and guest/sponsors divisions in the tournament.

The event's other backers are Fairways and Bluewater Golf and Country Club, Camp John Hay Development Corporation, The Manila Southwoods Manor, The Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club, The Baguio Country Club, Forest Hills Golf and Country Club, Sherwood Hills Country Club and Mt.
