Abandoned newborn rescued

DAVAO CITY - A healthy, newborn girl was found crying beside the road after being left in the grass last 5:45 in the morning Tuesday, at Havana Properties Land in Purok 6, Rambutan Street, Barangay Tugbok Proper, Tugbok District.

Albert Abaya, 22, delivery boy, resident of the area, found the baby girl who was bawling while lying down on a leaf and wearing a white shirt.

Abaya quickly brought the baby to his neighbors, the Remonde family, who are mostly nurses. The Remondes calmed the baby down and stopped her crying.

Remonde quickly contacted the Tugbok Police Station to inform them of the finding of the newborn baby.

The police, along with Barangay captain Wifredo Alpuni of Barangay Tugubok Proper quickly responded to the house of the nurses to sort out the documentation of the incident.

According to PO3 Laila Alonzo of the Women and Childrens Protection Desk (WCPD) of Precinct 9, the baby was born three hours before she was abandoned.

"Two to three hours pa gikan gi-anak ang bata, ingon sa nurse, himsog kaayo, (The baby was only born two to three hours before being left, according to the nurse,)" Alonzo said in a phone interview with Superbalita.

The police added that the aby was quickly endorsed to the Regional Safety for Child Custody (RSCC) of the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) along with personnel of the City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO).
