POWER distributors in Panay and Guimaras islands will converge in Boracay Island on April 11 to participate in the signing of a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to be conducted by the Global Business Power Corp. (GBPC) through the Panay Energy Corp (PEDC).

Power producer PEDC is finishing its 150-megawatt coal-fired power plant to be commissioned by June 2016. The plant is just a stone-throw away from the first 164-megawatt coal power plant in Barangay Ingore, La Paz, Iloilo City.

GBPC is also the owner of the nearby 64-megawatt diesel power plant and is the sole giant power generator in Western Visayas, supplying power demands of Panay, Guimaras and Negros islands through the Visayas grid.

Another coal-fired power plant with 130-megawatt capacity and run by Palm Concepcion Power Corporation in the town of Concepcion, northern Iloilo will be completed in early 2016, thereby assuring consumers and business locators of stable and more than enough power supply in the region.

Meanwhile, the island province of Guimaras recently inaugurated its 27 wind mill turbines in the town of San Lorenzo by harnessing wind power to produce 54 megawatts.

The wind farm is operated by Trans Asia Renewable Energy Corporation.

Participants to the PPA signing in Boracay include officials of electric cooperatives in Panay and Guimaras under the Panay Guimaras Power Consortium and other big power consumers.
