American found dead

AN AMERICAN national was found dead inside his house at Purok Masinadyahon, Barangay Lag-asan in Bago City, Negros Occidental Monday night, July 17.

Police identified the fatality as John Raymond Miller, 68, of Arizona, USA.

The victim was lying on his bed when found around 9:30 p.m.

Miller was suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes, and spinal damage, based on his wife's statement, police records showed.

Police ruled out foul play in the incident.

Wife killed by husband

In another development, a woman was killed by her own husband, who was then seriously injured when he attempted to end his life afterwards at Barangay Bakid, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental Monday night.

The fatality was identified as Marcela Montealegre, 52.

Superintendent Arnel Arpon, city police chief, said the suspect Promencio Montealegre, 39, shot his wife during a heated argument due to jealousy.

He also shot himself.

The police recovered three bullets of an improvised .357 caliber revolver.

Arpon said the couple’s minor child witnessed the incident that happened outside their house.

He added that the couple had been having arguments in the past weeks.

The police are waiting for the decision of the victim’s family on the filing of parricide charges against the suspect, who is confined at a hospital in Dumaguete City.
