'Auring' slightly changes speed, moves toward Surigao del Norte

TROPICAL Depression Auring has slightly changed its speed and is now moving toward Surigao del Norte, the state weather bureau said on Sunday, January 8.

In its 2 p.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Auring has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 70 kph. It is expected to move northwest at nine kph.

Pagasa also said that Auring is expected to make landfall in Surigao del Sur between Sunday evening until Monday morning, January 9.

Bohol, Siquijor, Negros Provinces, Southern Leyte, Cebu, Guimaras, Southern part of Iloilo and Southern part of Antique were placed under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) Number 1.

Also under signal number 1 are Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Surigao del Norte including Siargao Island, Dinagat Province, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Camiguin, Northern Zamboanga del Norte, Lanao del Norte, Northern and Lanao del Sur.

Residents in the said areas are prone to landslides and flashfloods, said Pagasa.

Pagasa also advised fisherfolk and those with smaller seacrafts not to over the eastern seaboard of Visayas and of Mindanao. (Sunnex)
