Baby abandoned, fetus found

A NEWBORN baby girl, whose umbilical cord still attached to her belly, was found inside a sack at Villarin Street, Barangay Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City around 6:30 a.m. Sunday.

The baby girl was abandoned outside the house of 69 year-old Violeta Rañoa, according to Senior Police Officer 1 Charlemagne Javierto of Police Station 4-Carmen.

The foundling was brought to the JR Borja Memorial City Hospital where it was given emergency care before being brought to the hospital’s internal medicine section.

Javierto said the identities of the baby’s parents remain unknown and the foundling will be turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Meanwhile, a man collecting recyclable garbage accidentally discovered a fetus stuffed inside a green plastic box Saturday morning at Purok 2B, Zone 10-D, Barangay Carmen.

Alejandro Quejada told policemen he found the fetus, estimated to be about 5 months old, around 10:45 a.m. Saturday while sifting through garbage.

The fetus was brought to the Bollozos Funeral Parlor at Barangay Bulua for proper disposition.
