Bacolod City Police launches drive vs loose guns

John Paul Villanueva

THE Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) has launched the “Oplan Kontra Boga,” a campaign against unlicensed and loose firearms.

Senior Inspector Armilyn Vargas, public information officer of BCPO, said on Monday, November 6, they came up with the campaign knowing that the suspects of various crimes, particularly akyat-bahay and hold-up incidents, have firearms.

Vargas said that even minors can possess improvised guns.

She added that the BCPO is informing the public to surrender their illegal firearms to the police station in their areas and to tell the authorities if they knew somebody who possesses the same.

The public can give information through hotline (0907)2780-149. Their identities will be withheld if necessary.

Vargas said the police will visit the houses of those who were reported to have possessed illegal firearms. They will be asked to surrender these and no charges will be filed against them.

“Information will be based through reports and intelligence gathering," she added.

Vargas said they will post tarpaulins to notify the public about their campaign.
