Bacolod to hire more street cleaners

John Paul V. Pepito

BACOLOD City Mayor Evelio Leonardia said on Monday the city will hire more street cleaners to address the garbage problem.

Leonardia said they need more street cleaners, who will be deployed to various areas especially at the downtown, to ensure cleanliness.

Last week, President Rodrigo Duterte criticized local officials who were not doing their jobs to address the garbage problem in their areas.

Duterte said the governors and mayors have discretionary and intelligence funds at their disposal.

Leonardia said he already directed Nelson Sedillo, head of Department of Public Services, to coordinate with garbage hauler Dynamic Builders to determine the schedule of garbage collection at the downtown area.

On Saturday, Leonardia, along with the City Legal Office Field Enforcement Team, inspected the garbage at the downtown area.

The team led by Dante Mendecillo cleared the Locsin Street in Barangay 37 where garbage were dumped.
