Baguio hosts museum summit in July

MUSEUM owners, operators and local government units in the Northern Philippines will hold a summit in July to fine-tune the role and relevance of museums in Philippine society.

The 2015 Regional Summit of the Museums of the North will be from July 1 to 3 in Baguio.

Baguio Museum chairman Nicholas Tabora will open the summit and Department of Tourism Regional Director Venus Tan will deliver a short message.

National Commission for Culture and the Arts Committee on Museums head Danny Alvarez will speak on “Museum Challenges for the 21st Century,” and Baguio Councilor Fred Bagbagen will follow with “Museum as a community space and local government laws to support Museum Sustainability.”

Mel Adino, Public Relations officer of the Vigan Tourism Council, will speak on “Vigan: A Living Museum.”

Assistant Curator of the Baguio Museum Gemma Estolas will then speak about, “Strategical approaches of Museum Educators and Museum Administrators to Issues,” followed by Aguinaldo Museum Founder Emil Suntay to discuss “Linkages, Websites, Social Media and Marketing Approaches of Museums.”
