Barangays fail to observe waste segregation policy

John Paul V. Pepito

FOUR barangays in Bacolod City have failed to observe the “no waste segregation, no collection policy” as mandated under the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2001.

These are Barangays Tangub, Vista Alegre, 10, and 3 which according to Vicente Petierre III, secretary to the mayor were identified by the Global Legal Action on Climate Change (Glacc) in their initial environment compliance audit.

Petierre said Glacc’s findings suggest that these barangays perform open burning, dumping and operation of the Material Recovery Facility (MRF).

Meantime, the City Government is strictly monitoring the implementation of the “no waste no segregation, no collection” policy in the city’s 61 barangays.

He said the solid waste management committee also holds consultation, monitoring and evaluation so that immediate plans and solutions to waste problems will be addressed.
