Barrita: Jail time is near

Jess V. Quitain

PRESIDENT Noynoy Aquino has denied being close to P10-billion pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles.

But he admitted having met Napoles a couple of times in the past and receiving a letter from her once. “Close kami? Medyo sobra naman yatang extension nu’n,” PNoy said.

What’s close, perhaps, is the issuance of warrants for her arrest for plunder raps filed before the Sandiganbayan in relation to the pork barrel scam.

The Ombudsman has rejected the motion for reconsideration filed by Sens. Juan Ponce Enrile, Jinggoy Estrada and Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. and Napoles in relation to the pork barrel scam.

That paved the way for the filing Friday of plunder raps against them. Let’s wait for the issuance of warrants of arrest against the three senators.

The time for jail is becoming near for them.

PNoy said the government is determined to recover public funds illegally obtained by Napoles.

Unfortunately, the list provided by Napoles and the whistleblowers in the pork barrel scam only indicated the lawmakers where part of the loot went.

Napoles only wanted to become state witness against the lawmakers, not against her, because she didn’t tell where her loot was.

A Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey revealed that in the past year, nine out of ten Filipinos suffered financial shortage, citing the rising prices of daily basic needs as the main cause.

It’s difficult to understand why so many Filipinos said they were broke when the economy registered its highest economic growth.

Nine out of ten were broke. The one who was not broke could very well be a lawmaker.
