BCPO probes cops involved in illegal drug trade

John Paul V. Pepito

The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) is conducting an investigation to determine if there are policemen involved in illegal drug trade in the city, said Supt. Armando Tubongbanua, deputy city director for operations.

This, after the family Berlyn Evangelista, a victim of summary execution, was allegedly abducted by a member of the Philippine National Police.

Evangelista, 21, of Purok Riverside, Barangay Banago, was found dead in Murcia.

The wife of the victim had earlier said that her husband was arrested by a police officer for alleged possession of illegal drugs and was forced to board a black vehicle at the Provincial Capitol Lagoon in Bacolod.

Tubongbanua said the family of the victim said they have concrete evidence that the crime was perpetrated by a policeman, but it is only an assumption and they don’t have a basis.

“Anybody can use the name of policemen in committing crimes,” he added.

The Murcia Municipal Police Station is looking into the possibility that the killing of the victim is drug-related.

Tubongbanua added it is also possible that the crime was committed by a drug personality in the city.

“Our mission is to preserve lives and properties and not to kill,” he said.

He added they are conducting a random drug test anew to determine who are involved in illegal drug activity and those who will be tested positive will face administrative charges.

Recently, Police Officer 1 Ryan Lumogdang of BCPO was tested positive for the use of illegal drugs.
