Bomb blast rocks Basilan

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- A rubber farm owner was critically wounded after an improvised bomb exploded in the hinterlands of Basilan Tuesday morning.

Sumisip Police Chief Alchmad Alibonga said the incident took place around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sitio Baag in the village of Guiong, Sumisip, Basilan province.

Alibonga identified the victim as Hamirun Mingkong, 47, a resident of Sitio Baag in the village of Guiong. The victim was taken to the hospital.

Investigation showed the victim was about to tap rubber trees when an improvised bomb exploded which he accidentally stepped on, according to Alibonga.

The incident was allegedly the handiwork of the Abu Sayyaf Group headed by Musana Jamiri, Alibonga added.
