A TOTAL of 7,000 fish fingerlings were released into the Iloilo River on Friday to boost recreational fishing along the waterway.

The 5,000 tilapia and 2,000 milkfish bangus fingerlings were released from the Carpenter's Bridge in ceremonies headed by Senate President Franklin and Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.

Mabilog said fishermen using fine mesh nets are prohibited from fishing downstream of Carpenter's Bridge to allow the fingerlings to mature and reproduce. Only the hook and line method used in recreational fishing is allowed.

Drilon also ordered the release of white ducks into the river to add beauty and enhance tourism.
