Boy dies, 3 hurt in Basilan gun attack

A THREE-YEAR-OLD child was killed while three others, including two children, were wounded in a gun attack in Lamitan City, Basilan, the police reported Tuesday, September 20.

Chief Inspector Mohammad Abdulhalim, Lamitan City police chief, identified the lone fatality as Omal Lario, three.

Wounded were Lario’s mother, Usaiya, 25 and sister, Naira, five and son of a neighbour, Said Montong, 11. They were hospitalized.

Abdulhalim said the incident took place around 2:50 a.m. Monday in the village of Lower Balobo, Lamitan City, Basilan.

Abdulhalim said investigation showed the victims were in deep slumber when unidentified persons armed with M-16 Armalite and Garand rifles attacked them.

Recovered from the crime scene were 20 empty shells of M-16 Armalite and four of Garand rifles.

Abdulhalim said policemen from the Basilan Provincial Public Safety Company pursued the suspects but the latter managed to escape.
