Brigade commander shot dead in Sulu

A SENIOR officer in the Philippine Army was killed by an enlisted man in the province of Sulu, a military official said Friday, September 23.

Major Filemon Tan Jr., Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) spokesman, identified the slain officer as Major Nurhusin Hadjaruddin, the commanding officer of the Army’s 52nd Engineer Brigade.

Tan said Hadjaruddin was killed at his residence around 9:10 a.m. Friday in the village of Busbus, Jolo, Sulu.

The military official said Hadjaruddin was allegedly shot and killed by Corporal Julhalim Indanan.

Tan said Hadjaruddin, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds, was rushed to Camp General Bautista Station Hospital but the officer expired around 9:48 a.m.

The cadaver of Hadjaruddin was turned over to his family in Jolo for burial in accordance with the Muslim rites.

Tan said Indanan was detained and appropriate charges are set to be filed against him.
