THE Department of Budget and Management (DBM)-Western Visayas regional office released P664 million to cover salary increases of some government employees, including teachers.

Alfonso Bedonia Jr., regional director of DBM in Western Visayas, said Wednesday that the amount would cover 52,000 government positions all over the region. The release started Friday last week, he said.

It represents the second tranche of the teachers and other government employees' salary hike, as mandated by Republic Act (RA) 6758, or the Salary Standardization Law III.

Bedonia said that the increase will be credited to the teacher's accounts.

The increases range from 10 to 30 percent, depending on the salary grade of the employees, Bedonia added.

The employees who will receive the increase from the DBM regional office are those at the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) - P12.4 million; State Colleges and Universities - P74.268 million; Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) - P6.2 million; and Department of Health (DOH) - P18.3 million.

Executive Order 900 was issued last June 23 to implement Republic Act (RA) 6758, or the Salary Standardization Law III.

Bedonia was with DBM Secretary Butch Abad who visited the province Wednesday. (TED)
