MABALACAT CITY -- A passenger bus with some 40 passengers caught fire at the south-bound lane of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) at dawn on Tuesday.

No persons were reportedly injured because of the quick evacuation initiated by the bus driver and conductor upon reaching the Bocaue area in Bulacan province.

Driver Rodrigo Manlapaz said that he felt a slight vibration on the bus’ wheels upon reaching Dau Bus Terminal in this city.

Manlapaz said he tried to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher but to no avail.

NLEx personnel stated that they received a call about a burning ES Transport bus at around 2:45 am on Tuesday.

The vehicle fire was put out at about 3:15 a.m., they added.

The driver said that the bus’ overheated brake lining may have caused the fire.

Netizens were able to take a video of the bus while being consumed by the fire.
