Business permit extended deadline ends

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- The two-day extension for those filing business permits ends Friday.

Wilma Lintan, municipal treasurer, said the last day to file and renew permits and licenses is Friday. "We are just waiting for the computer program here to work."

Lintan said the program is to be installed to the system to help the office process papers faster.

Lintan hopes for an increase in figures as compared to 2009 statistics. But she said, "We [still] do not have the exact figures of how many have paid their taxes."

So far, the surge has been seen in the applications of the chicken dung industry, which has caused controversy because of compliance with the local ordinance here.

A One Stop Shop has been set up in the municipal grounds to help speed the process of processing of permits.

The municipal treasury office hopes to finish all the work by next week so it can distribute the permits soon.

There is rush to get Department of Tourism accreditations for establishments here, which are batting to be exempt from curfew and liquor ordinances which regulate operating hours as well as sale of establishments.

Mayor Artemio Galwan said the processing of permits this year would be a gauge if investors have stayed on or pulled out from the Valley after the extensive devastations of 2009. (Maria Elena Catajan)
