CEBU CITY -- A former mayor of Compostela, Cebu was declared dead on arrival in a hospital after two armed men fired upon him past 10 p.m. Monday.

Joselito Valencia Reynes was onboard his vehicle when attacked by the suspects in Barangay Estaca, Compostela. He attended a wake before the incident.

The victim, who served Compostela as a mayor in 1980 and a councilor in 1990, was rushed to Danao District Hospital in Danao, Cebu but was pronounced dead on arrival by attending physicians.

Police are still conducting investigation to unmask the suspects and determine the motive behind the killing.

The local police are not discounting the possibility that the incident was politically motivated as Reynes was the campaign manager of Joel Quinio, the incumbent mayor of the town. (Sunnex)
