THE Cebu City Government will close half of all major roads in the city for the Cebu Marathon 2013 tomorrow.

It will also close to traffic the tunnel at the South Road Properties from 1 a.m. to 10 a.m.

John Pages of the Cebu Executive Runners Club said the marathon, which is on its fourth year, will start at the Cebu I.T. Park in Barangay Apas.

The route will pass through Salinas Drive, Gorordo Ave., N. Escario St., Gen. Maxilom Ave., Osmeña Blvd. and Juan Luna St., before proceeding to the Cebu South Coastal Road at the South Road Properties (SRP).

Motorists headed for Talisay and the south are advised to proceed to Mambaling and enter the SRP at the Mambaling junction.

City-bound motorists from the south can enter the SRP but they have to turn left at the Mambaling junction.

The joint personnel and enforcers of the Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) and the Talisay Operation Development Authority will be deployed in key intersections to guide motorists.

Thousands of participants outside Cebu have entered the three categories: 5K, 21K and 42K.

“We are all set. The run is considered as one of the biggest sporting events in Cebu,” Pages said.

As far as traffic is concerned, Citom executive director Atty. Rafael Yap said they are prepared.

He pointed out that there was a delay in pulling out water stations in last year’s marathon.

“But this has been already addressed. We have already coordinated with the organizers,” he said.
