Central Bank sets coin recirculation dialogue

John Dave N. Casas

THE Bangko Central ng Pilipinas (BSP) will conduct a multi-sectoral consultative dialogue in Zamboanga City aimed to address the problem on coins shortage in the country.

BSP-Zamboanga Branch head Melodino Patiño said the dialogue is scheduled on April 23 in support of the BSP's National Coin Recirculation Program.

Representatives from different sectors, including the media are expected to attend the dialogue.

“This undertaking is specifically aimed at collecting inputs from partners and stakeholders for policy formulation and strategies to address coin shortage problem,” Patiño said.

Over the past years, the BSP has implemented programs and invested in projects and facilities that would ensure efficient recirculation of issued coins.

Recent data showed that the Philippines has the highest per capita number of coins among countries in Southeast Asia, but the problem on coin shortage continues.
