THE more the merrier.

This was the assessment of Southwestern University athletic director and the Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa-7) caretaker Ryan Aznar with the merger of the Prisaa and the State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (Scuaa) for the revived Commission on Higher Education (Ched) National Games.

The 2010 Ched National Games is slated on Feb. 22 to 27 at the Rizal Memorial Complex in Manila.

“It’s good actually. We have more choices in the selection of athletes and we have a bigger meet,” Aznar told Sun.Star-Cebu.

Field

More than 450 athletes, coaches and officials will be travelling to Manila on Feb. 19 to start Central Visayas’ bid for athletic supremacy.

“Everything is fine now. We’re just waiting for the day when we will leave for Manila. Our preparations are on schedule, our athletes are ready,” Aznar added.

A total of 17 sports events will be contested—including two additions—beach volleyball and boxing.

“There will be 17 sports events, two additions, beach volleyball and boxing, while Dancesports is now a regular event,” confirmed Aznar.

Representatives

However, the event’s centerpiece—basketball, will be represented by players from Bohol.

“We were not represented in basketball. Since our top three teams were at the Champions League when we had our regional tournament, the players from Bohol composed of players from the University of Bohol, Holy Name University, Bohol Institute of Technology and the Philippine Maritime Institute, will represent us to the National Games,” he stressed.

Ched-7 Director Amelia Biglete challenged the Central Visayas athletes to do their best and improve from their third place finish in last year’s Prisaa National meet.
