City gov’t joins Independence Day celebration

THE City Government of Zamboanga is joining Sunday, June 12, the nationwide commemoration of the country’s 118th Independence Day anniversary.

Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar will lead the Independence Day ceremony, which will be held at Plaza Rizal, in front of City Hall.

City Hall Information Officer Belen Sheila Covarrubias said the ceremony will kick off at 8 a.m. with a wreath laying ceremony, followed by the hoisting of the flag, and the Independence Day message of Salazar.

Expected to attend the simple commemorative rites are the different local and national government agencies, civil society groups, the academe, the security forces, and non-government organizations.

This year’s Independence Day celebration is anchored on the theme “Pagkakaisa, Pag-aambangan, Pagsulong.”

The City Government has lined up other activities for the month of June.

The activities are: 155th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal, June 19, the Dia de Fundacion de Chavacano, June 23, the Cine Chavacano Festival de Pelicula y Animacion, June 25, and Arbor Day na Zamboanga, June 25.
