VILLAGE Health Workers in the City of San Fernando gathered Tuesday, May 9, for a seminar on disease awareness conducted by the City Health Office.

Mayor Edwin Santiago said the activity was made to remind health representatives on their duties and responsibilities to help stop the spread of common diseases.

“One of the administration’s priority is to ensure that the city caters the medical needs of everyone, thus achieve prosperity that comes from a community with a healthy citizenry,” he added.

Among the topics discussed were the different types of diseases that commonly occur in a community like dengue, measles, and chickenpox.

City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit nurse Richard Dennis Yap also gave some tips on how to decrease the risk of having these kinds of diseases.

“By simply washing your hands and maintaining cleanliness of households, you may already reduce the risk of common diseases. It must start within yourselves and apply it in your everyday lives,” Yap added.

BHWs are also encouraged to actively participate in the activities of the city in disseminating health tips and promoting healthy living. (PR)
