Civil defense office prepares for heavy rains this weekend

THE Office of Civil Defense (OCD) is getting ready for possible flashfloods as the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecasted Davao Region to experience heavy rains this weekend due to the presence of low pressure area (LPA).

Pagasa, in their 4 p.m. weather advisory, said the LPA was estimated to be at 990 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, outside of the Philippines' area of responsibility.

The public is advised to prepare and be alert for possible flashfloods and continuous rain it might bring in low-lying areas and landslide in mountain slopes.

OCD Regional Director Leoncio Cirunay said all the responders in the region were already notified to prepare for the effects of the LPA.

He said they have further improved their disaster response operations after the tail-end of a cold front hit the region in the past two weeks, leaving hundreds of houses damage, millions of agricultural lost, and displacing thousands of individuals due to heavy floods.

Cirunay reminded the public to be vigilant and follow weather advisory or warnings to prevent any untoward incident. (JCR)
