THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has safely rescued a tugboat with two mariners aboard that ran aground off Zamboanga City, a PCG official announced on Thursday, July 27.

Lieutenant Senior Grade Alvin Dagalea, Zamboanga Coast Guard Station commander, said the tugboat, T/B Zambo Sun, was rescued by personnel of the Sangali coastguard sub-station around 1:45 p.m., Wednesday, July 26.

Dagalea said the tugboat owned by the Zamboanga Tugs Marine and Associates ran aground in the waters of Manicahan.

He said the tugboat was en route to the city proper after it rendered pilotage services to M/T Chelsea Denise in Sangali when it ran aground on shallow waters.

He said the two mariners, whose identities were not released, were unscathed during the incident.

He said the tugboat in distress was towed and arrived safely at the Pamingitan Wharf. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
