THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Bacolod City will launch the “Oplan Ligtas Biyahe Christmas 2017” next week as part of their security preparations for the holiday season.

Lieutenant Senior Grade Jimmy Vingno, chief of PCG-Bacolod, said on Monday they will be on heightened alert status starting next week when the influx of people coming home and going to vacations starts.

The alert status will remain until the first week of January, he added.

Security personnel from the Coast Guard, Maritime Group, and Philippine Ports Authority will be deployed to ensure the safety of passengers. K9 dogs will also help in the inspection.

“We will conduct random inspection and checking of baggages,” Vingno said.

He said that 10 Coast Guard personnel will be assigned in ports. Some of them will be stationed in the passenger assistance desks.

At present, the PCG is focusing on conducting intensified coastal security patrol.
