COLLEGE teachers in Central Visayas will not be displaced by the implementation of Senior High School (SHS) next month, according to the Commission on Higher Education (Ched).

Dr. Josefino Ronquillo, Ched 7 supervising education program specialist, told Sun.Star Cebu that starting next month, 600 college teachers from various higher education institutions (HEIs) in the region will undergo two-year studies.

Ronquillo said the 600 teachers will serve as the first batch to avail themselves of Ched’s “developmental packages.”

He said Ched organized the Faculty Development Program (FDP) to provide opportunities to college teachers to complete masteral or doctoral studies as a requirement for advancement in their HEIs.

He said the program will also allow college teachers to qualify to teach in the SHS level.

Compliance

Once they complete their masteral and doctoral studies, they will be required to serve their HEIs for two years as a sort of “return of service,” Ronquillo said.

Ronquillo said majority of teachers in HEIs don’t have the means to take up masteral or doctoral courses.

The FDP will also help HEIs comply with Ched Memorandum Order 40-2008, which requires all faculty members in HEIs to have at least a master’s degree.

Ronquillo said they are processing applications for the second batch of teachers who want to avail themselves of Ched’s development packages.
