THE local Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Cagayan de Oro City has started checking some 100 names of registrants who are allegedly not bonafide residents of Barangay 18 following complaints from concerned persons.

Lawyer Joan Abucejo-Vallejos, acting city election officer, said of the 100 names handed to the Comelec office, they found out that only six are new registrants while the rest are old registered voters.

Vallejos said Comelec has summoned the six persons, five of whom executed affidavits that they are residents of Barangay 18.

She said one of the six new registrants failed to show up at the Comelec office.

"The application of the one who failed to show up despite the summon was disapproved," Vallejos told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.

The Comelec is also set to disapprove some applicants of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) for various reasons such as overage, underage and altered birth certificates.

However, Vallejos said the Comelec is yet to determine the exact figure of disapproved and approved applicants for the barangay and SK polls though she assured to finalize the list by next week. (Annabelle L. Ricalde)
