Cop shot during fistfight with drug surrenderer

A POLICEMAN was wounded after he was shot during a fistfight with a drug surrenderer in Margosatubig town, Zamboanga del Sur province, Tuesday night, the police reported on Wednesday, July 12.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the victim as Police Officer 1 Oliver Apduhan.

Galvez said the incident occurred around 8:40 p.m., Tuesday, at Purok Orchids in Poblacion, Margosatubig town.

Investigation showed that prior to the incident, Apduhan confronted Jomar Taiting, a drug surrenderer, resulting to a fistfight between the two men.

While the two were fighting, an unidentified person appeared and aided Taiting. The man grabbed the policeman's gun and shot the officer twice.

Apduhan, who was hit in the head, was brought to the Margosatubig Regional Hospital and was later transferred to the Zamboanga del Sur Medical Center.
