CAMP OLIVAS -– Police recently arrested five men believed to be members of an armed group operating in Mexico town and other areas in the province's third district.

The suspects identified as Mark Lenin "Ka Red" Salas, Rodwin "Rose" Tala, Jose "Sabel" Gomez, Daniel "Marco" Navarro, and Jerry "Miguel" Simbulan were armed with different kinds of high-powered firearms when arrested by joint elements of the Central Luzon and Pampanga Police in Barangay Sindalan here.

An informant reportedly relayed to the local police the presence of the group in said village.

Police said the suspect's arrest was an offshoot of a recent armed confrontation with the said group on July 30, 2010 in Barangay Sta Cruz, Mexico town where three of its members died after a shootout which lasted for an hour. Salas and other members of the group managed to escape after the incident.

Salas has several standing arrest warrant for murder issued by different branches of the Regional Trial Court in the province, police said.

Police seized high-powered firearms and ammunitions from the suspects, who will be charged with illegal possession of guns.
