Corteza stays alive

LEE Vann Corteza of Davao City stayed alive by crushing Mohanna Obaidly of Qatar, 9-3, in the losers' bracket to enter the knockout round-of-64 in the ongoing 2010 World Pool Championships at the Qatar Billiards and Snooker Federation Hall in Doha, Qatar Friday.

Corteza, the recently crowned US Open 10 Ball champion, was set to trade skills against another veteran internationalist Tony Drago of Malta as of Saturday.

Efren "Bata" Reyes also advanced through losers' bracket by eliminating Ihab Hassan of Egypt, 9-0, while Antonio Gabica demolished Corey Deuel of the United States, 9-3, and Jeffrey de Luna ousted Khalid Almutari of Kuwait, 9-3.

The others who earlier booked tickets to the Last 64 were Dennis Orcullo, Ronato Alcano, Antonio Lining, Venancio Tanio, Allan Cuartero, Francisco Felisilda, Raymund Faraon, Oliver Medenilla, Israel Rota, Venancio Tanio, Marlon Manalo and Joven Alba.
